Sailing 2009

We had not been Sailing for around 10 years with scouts, here are some of the highlights from the 6 week course.

During the first week the scouts learnt the basic principles of sailing before setting up their boats ready to go onto the water. When they did make it onto the water the scouts had mixed results with some spending more time in the water than in their boats.

After the previous week the scouts had extra tuition on how to steer the Toppers to gain the best from the weather conditions. Most of them grasped this and were sailing across the water at great speeds. It was all going well until the rain came and the winds picked up. Its fair to say the majority made good use of their spare set of clothes.

The remaining weeks were spent practicing their skills in order to reached the required standards to pass the course.  Not everyone was successful, but many showed a vast improvement and have a good foothold for the next time we go out on the water.
